ShipShape Privacy Policy

ShipShape is published by Turing Forge LLC ("Turing Forge," "we," "us"), 2121 1st Ave N, Ste N, Birmingham, AL 35203.
The short version: ShipShape keeps your information on your iPhone and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud account. We don't collect it, see it, sell it or share it. We have no ShipShape servers and no user accounts, and the app contains no advertising or tracking.
1. What stays on your device
Everything you put in ShipShape is stored on your device: boats, engines and trailers; photos; owner's manuals; the text ShipShape reads from them; maintenance plans; service logs; hour readings; and settings.
ShipShape's AI features use Apple's on-device model. That includes reading schedules from manuals, reading text from photos (such as hull ID and engine labels), and turning your voice notes into log entries. Your information isn't sent to us or to any cloud AI service for this. Voice recordings are transcribed on the device. The transcript is discarded once you confirm or cancel the entry.
2. iCloud sync (ShipShape Pro)
If you turn on iCloud sync, your ShipShape data is stored in your own private iCloud database so your devices on the same Apple Account stay in step. Apple stores and protects that data under Apple's privacy policy. We can't access your private iCloud data. Turn sync off anytime in ShipShape's Settings.
3. Permissions
ShipShape asks for permission only when you use a feature that needs it:
- Camera and Photos: to add boat photos and read labels.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition: for voice logging, processed on the device.
- Reminders and Calendar: to add maintenance items, if you choose to.
- Notifications: for maintenance and subscription reminders.
What these permissions give the app access to stays on your device. You can change them in your iPhone's Settings.
4. The in-app browser
When you look for a manual, ShipShape opens websites (manufacturer sites and the search engine you choose) in an in-app browser. Those sites receive what any website receives from your browser, such as your IP address and your searches, and may use cookies. Their own privacy policies apply. ShipShape watches only for manual PDFs you choose to save, and doesn't send your browsing to us.
5. Purchases
Apple processes all purchases. We don't receive your payment details. Apple gives developers sales and transaction information so we can provide what you bought and keep our records. The app checks your purchases with Apple on your device.
6. Information Apple may share with us
If you've agreed in your device settings to share analytics or crash data with app developers, Apple may give us aggregated usage statistics and crash reports. These don't identify you to us. You can change this in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
7. If you contact us
If you email us at support@turingforgeai.com or privacy@turingforgeai.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include, such as screenshots or exported files. We use it only to answer you and keep it only as long as needed for that, and for our records.
8. What we don't do
We don't sell or share personal information, show ads, track you across apps or websites, build profiles about you, or use your information to train AI models.
9. Children
ShipShape isn't directed to children under 13. The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Deleting your data
Because your data is on your devices and in your iCloud account, you control it:
- Delete a boat or entry in the app.
- Delete the app to remove its data from that device.
- To remove synced data, open Settings > [your name] > iCloud, go to your iCloud storage, choose ShipShape and delete its data.
To have us delete an email you sent us, write to privacy@turingforgeai.com.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, or to opt out of its sale, targeted advertising or profiling. Because we don't collect or hold your ShipShape data, most of these requests are handled directly on your device. For anything we do hold, such as support emails, write to privacy@turingforgeai.com and we'll respond within the time the law requires.
12. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is material, for example if ShipShape ever starts collecting data, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
